Nader, I didn't try any of the ones you mention. I will say that I've been using it on the stage a lot, and found some drawbacks. For larger shows, it really needs a pickup installed, as the sound tends to drop out a LOT if I mic it. I am also going to be upgrading the cone as many other people recommend, as the tone seems to get really dull after a week or so of playing.

I'm using phosphor bronze strings, medium guage.

I'll reiterate that a proper setup is key with these instruments!

Thanks for reading!

Hey Jon,
thanks for sharing your views. I am desperatly looking for a good resonator too but I am afraid I will ahve to order it by internet wich worries me since I won´t be abble to try it. My first option is a Republic Duolian but your review made me think about the Regal too.
I wanted to know if you ever heard of or tried a Republic and what you thinks about it.
Also on the menu is the Epiphone MD 100 and the Dean Chrome G and the Heirloom.
I forgot to say, that most likely I´ll have to order this online because I live in perú,although I am travelling for 10 days to NY soon, but don´t know if I´ll have the time to run into all of them.
Thanks again

Hi Kim,

As long as you get a decent set up, the guitar will play nicely. Tell them what you are playing (finger style vs. slide, etc.) and they'll set it up accordingly.

Make sure you buy from a retailer who offers a return policy, so on the off-chance that you get a dud you can return it.

Finger picking isn't that hard, the only thing to watch out for is, if you have it set up for slide, the strings will be higher than on a conventional acoustic, and you have to press down a little more. It's not that difficult, but it takes a while to get used to.

Hope this helps, thanks for reading!

thanks a lot for the review. I am interested in the rc-2 and though I doubt I will be able to actually play the instrument in a local store, it is available online. Do you think this is a dangerous way to to go (ie. luck of the draw) Some of the stores offer set-up. Also, I don't play slide - though this guitar would probably make me learn. I finger-pick blues and have been developing a delta repertoire. Just how hard is it to fingerpick on a resonator, and is that just dependent on the set-up? Or is the action on a this kind of resonator inherently stiff? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I would appreciate your brief advice. Kim

What kind of strings did you put on it? Brand, size, etc. and how do you go about choosing strings for a resonator. I have an Epiphone Biscuit and I play slide and pick.
Thanks
