Jon Hebert is a New Orleans author and songwriter. UL Press will publish his forthcoming music-inspired comedy memoir in 2026. He is the author of the espionage thriller The Gemstone Peridot and the darkly comic noir You’ve Got To Be Killing Me! Both books have been selected for the Indie Author Project’s regional library collection. He has been featured in the New Orleans Library’s Renewed anthology, and the Patty Friedmann Writing Contest anthology. A lifelong musician, Jon has released three albums of original roots and rock music. He lives in New Orleans with his girlfriend and their blind cat.

Jon came up through the New Orleans songwriter scene after moving to the city in 2012. He backed up songwriters on bass and guitar, and played with Bon Bon Vivant, The Set Up Kings, The Shamaniacs, James Jordan, Pearl and the Lonely Night Trio, Reed Alleman, and Terrina Russell-Cook.

Working with local musicians and studios, he released thre albums of original music—Flash In The Pan (2024), Bayou Wild (2020), and Bourbon Nights (2017). He’s recorded with Gina Forsyth, André Bohren, Ben Alleman, Rick Trolsen, Doug Belote, Carolyn Broussard, and Jeff Watkins, among others. His music has been played on WWOZ, KLSU, WHIV, WTUL, and WZRH in Louisiana, as well as KGNU in Colorado and KRCB in San Francisco.

In 2022, he published his debut novel The Gemstone Peridot, a spy thriller, garnering a 5-star review on Reedsy Discovery. In 2024, his short story “A Mellow, Fading Sound” was included in the New Orleans Public Library’s Renewed anthology. In 2025 he published a darkly comic noir You’ve Got to Be Killing Me! under the pen name Jon Dumaine. He has more novels in the works.

Jon is a former newspaper entertainment editor (LSU’s The Reveille), radio DJ (KLSU & WZRH), and rock and roll frontman. He created Keys Adornments, a jewelry line made from recycled New Orleans piano parts (available on Etsy).

Offbeat Magazine has this to say about Jon’s record Flash In The Pan:

“Songwriter and guitarist Jon Hébert doesn’t write songs with a specific genre in mind—he just writes them and lets ’em fall where they may. Besides Hébert’s guitar playing and situational-rooted songwriting, his ability to craft and develop tracks that build upon their momentum is what makes Flash in the Pan worthy of repeated listens.”

Offbeat Magazine also has this to say about Jon’s debut album Bayou Wild:

“Bayou Wild moves effortlessly through a plethora of genres. No matter if it’s the Americana sounds of ‘Windy River’ (which features Hebert on mandolin), the horn laden ‘Landmark Hotel,’ or the Louisiana roots-rock of ‘Henriette Delille,’ Hebert is clearly comfortable working in different musical landscapes.”

Reedsy Discovery has this to say about Jon’s spy thriller The Gemstone Peridot:

“Murder. Spies. Assassins. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. It was one of the most thrilling mystery books I have read in a while, and Jon Hebert does an excellent job of weaving the story together from a multitude of perspectives. Only pick it up if you have plenty of time though—once I started reading this book I did not want to put it down!”

Jon also helps music industry professionals overcome struggles with bothersome tinnitus. In 2017, he underwent therapy for hyperacusis and tinnitus, finding the strength to work through these mysterious hearing conditions to continue his music career. In partnership with the New Orleans Musicians Assistance Foundation, Jon offers mindfulness-based tinnitus management workshops, teaching participants how to manage tinnitus through mindfulness-based meditation techniques backed by medical research.

In his day job, Jon runs a web and graphic design company Jon Hébert Creative, and he teaches online courses in graphic design.
